Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) has extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, teammates and wider athletics community following the passing of Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo.
The news of Tsontso’s passing has brought sadness to the athletics community, particularly to those who knew her through her involvement with the sport and her association with Team Vitality. Her passing is being mourned by fellow athletes, colleagues, friends and supporters who shared a connection with her both on and off the track.
CGA expressed its deepest sympathies to the Moselakgomo family during this difficult period, acknowledging the pain and loss experienced by those closest to Tsontso. The organisation also called on members of the athletics community to stand together in remembrance and support of the family.

Tsontso will be laid to rest on Sunday, 20 September 2026, at Phake Kwa-Rankaila. The funeral will provide an opportunity for family, friends, members of Team Vitality and the broader athletics fraternity to come together to honour her life and pay their final respects.
As the athletics community reflects on her passing, Central Gauteng Athletics has also called for a moment of silence in Tsontso’s honour. Athletes, coaches, officials, clubs and supporters were encouraged to observe the moment of silence on Friday, 18 September, at 12:00.
The tribute serves as a collective expression of respect and remembrance for Tsontso, while also offering an opportunity for the athletics community to share in the grief of the Moselakgomo family.
Moments of remembrance such as these highlight the strong bonds that exist within the athletics fraternity. Beyond competitions, races and sporting achievements, athletes and members of the community often form lasting friendships and relationships. The loss of a member of that community is therefore deeply felt by many.
CGA has urged everyone who knew Tsontso to remember her with dignity, compassion and respect as her loved ones prepare to lay her to rest.
The organisation joins Team Vitality, the Moselakgomo family, friends and the entire athletics community in mourning her passing. At this difficult time, thoughts and condolences are with all those who knew and loved her.
May the memories of Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, teammates and everyone whose life she touched.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
