Tsakani Matlala, the wife of businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, has been arrested in connection with allegations of fraud, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Matlala was arrested on Tuesday morning along with three other suspects during police operations conducted at different locations across Gauteng. The arrests form part of an investigation into the alleged fraudulent acquisition of properties in the province.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Atlenda Mathe confirmed the arrests, saying the suspects are expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
According to Mathe, investigators allege that the suspects obtained several properties across Gauteng by using fraudulent documents. The exact number and value of the properties involved have not yet been disclosed by police.
“The allegation is that they acquired various properties across Gauteng utilising fraudulent documents,” Mathe said.
The arrests represent the latest development in an investigation that has drawn attention to alleged fraudulent transactions involving property. Police have not provided further details about the specific documents allegedly used or how the properties were acquired.
Matlala is among four people taken into custody as investigators continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged transactions. The identities and individual roles of the other three suspects have not been fully detailed by police.
The suspects are expected to appear in court, where the charges against them will be formally presented. Their court appearance is also expected to provide further information about the allegations and the progress of the investigation.
