The heartbreaking death of five-year-old Cliché Ockhuis has left her family and community devastated after the young girl sadly lost her battle with cancer.
Cliché passed away at Tygerberg Hospital following a long and difficult journey that saw her undergo months of treatment. She had been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow.
Despite her young age, Cliché endured a challenging medical journey with remarkable courage. Her family remained hopeful throughout her treatment, believing that she would eventually overcome the illness and return to the happy childhood she deserved.
In an emotional attempt to help save her daughter’s life, Cliché’s 23-year-old mother, Hazel Ockhuis, donated her own stem cells to her daughter. The procedure gave the family renewed hope that the treatment could help Cliché fight the disease.
