Disturbing new claims have emerged about the death of Itumeleng Kekana, 32, one of nine women whose bodies have been found across Ekurhuleni since July.
Kekana was reported missing on 17 July 2026. Her body was discovered on 3 August in bushes near Great North Road in Pomona, Kempton Park. She was laid to rest in QwaQwa on 22 August. She is survived by her 14-year-old daughter.
According to a new report circulating online, her body was found with severe injuries and several body parts missing. The report alleges her heart was missing, along with tissue from her armpits and skin from the back of her head. Another injury was also described, but its exact nature remains unclear.
These details have not been independently verified. Police have not released a formal post-mortem report or statement confirming the claims. It is therefore not yet established when the injuries occurred or what caused them.
Family’s Painful Search
Earlier reports stated that Kekana had sustained multiple stab wounds when she was found. Her family said they searched hospitals, clinics, mortuaries and police stations for weeks after she disappeared before being told her body had been discovered.
Her funeral in QwaQwa was attended by family, friends and community members who are still demanding answers about what happened to her.
Part Of A Wider Investigation
Kekana is one of nine women whose bodies have been discovered in the Ekurhuleni region in recent months. The cases have sparked widespread fear and anger, with protests held in Johannesburg and Durban calling for faster action.
Police have confirmed that a multidisciplinary investigative team has been established to look into the deaths. Authorities have, however, cautioned that the cases have not all been conclusively linked and that it is too early to determine if they are connected.
In recent days, two other victims were identified as 28-year-old Gracious Nkomo, who was found partially clothed along the R21 in Kempton Park, and 23-year-old Tebello, identified by her family as the ninth victim found in Dawn Park, wrapped in a sheet.
Police Reject Reward Offer
As public pressure grows, the Democratic Alliance (DA) reportedly offered a R500,000 reward for information leading to arrests in the Ekurhuleni cases. Police have rejected the offer, citing concerns about politicizing an active investigation.
Officials say they want to avoid any interference that could compromise evidence or the integrity of the case.
Questions Remain Unanswered
The reported condition of Kekana’s body has raised further questions for investigators. However, police say the condition of a body alone does not establish a motive, nor does it prove a link to other murders in the area.
Forensic investigations are ongoing, and families are waiting for post-mortem results that could provide more clarity.
For now, the family of Itumeleng Kekana says they want one thing: answers about who killed her and why.
