South African media personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye is facing a potential arrest after failing to appear at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 August 2026.
The court issued a warrant of arrest following his absence from proceedings related to criminal charges stemming from an alleged confrontation with an e-hailing driver in Edenvale on the East Rand.
Maarohanye was expected to attend court as the matter continued. However, his legal representative informed the court that the 46-year-old entertainer was unable to attend after reportedly falling ill on Thursday.
The warrant was issued as a procedural step and will not immediately result in Maarohanye being arrested. His defence team has been given 14 days to submit medical documentation to the court as proof of his illness and to explain why he could not attend the proceedings.
The warrant will only be enforced if Maarohanye fails to appear at his next court date on 7 September 2026.
The case relates to an incident allegedly involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale earlier this year. According to police allegations, Maarohanye confronted the driver after accusing him of having an involvement with his girlfriend.
The confrontation allegedly escalated, with the driver reportedly being forced into Maarohanye’s vehicle. Police further allege that a shot was fired during the incident.
Although a firearm was allegedly discharged, the driver was not injured. He reportedly managed to escape from the situation and later reported the incident to authorities.
Maarohanye is facing several serious charges, including intimidation and kidnapping. Previous charges linked to the matter include allegedly pointing a firearm, or an object resembling a firearm, as well as discharging a firearm in a public place.
The television personality has previously rejected the allegations against him. He has described the case as fabricated and maintains his denial of the accusations.
Despite the latest development, Maarohanye remains out on bail. He was previously granted bail of R5,000 while police investigations into the matter continue.
The latest warrant does not mean that Maarohanye has been convicted of any offence. The allegations against him remain before the court, and the prosecution still has to prove its case.
Attention will now turn to the next court appearance on 7 September. His legal team is expected to provide the required medical documentation explaining his absence from Monday’s proceedings.
If the court accepts the explanation and Maarohanye appears as required, the warrant may not be activated. However, failure to comply with the court’s instructions could lead to further legal consequences.
The case continues to attract public attention because of Maarohanye’s high-profile status in South Africa’s entertainment industry. The former television presenter and musician has previously faced legal battles, making the latest court proceedings another significant development in his ongoing legal troubles.
For now, Maarohanye remains on bail, while the Germiston Magistrate’s Court awaits the medical evidence and his appearance in September.
