The South African entertainment industry is mourning the tragic death of producer and musician Molimisi “Dr Nel” Baaitsi. The talented artist’s body was discovered in the early hours of Sunday, 2 November 2025, around 4 a.m. along Phetogo Drive — just hours after performing at a night event.

According to police reports, Dr Nel was allegedly attacked between Seleka Number 1 and Number 2 villages. He reportedly sustained fatal injuries and succumbed at the scene before emergency services could arrive. The official cause of his death has not yet been confirmed, as authorities await the post-mortem results.
A video taken at the venue where Dr Nel had performed the night before his death has since circulated online. In the footage, the artist appears to be in high spirits, surrounded by friends and fellow performers. However, the same video has sparked speculation among social media users, who believe that something might have gone wrong later that night.
Some of the comments on social media read:
“I guess the suspects are here.”
“The way he was so happy…”
“Why was this girl all over him like this? Honestly, these people next to him were acting strangely…”
“He knew he was leaving.”
The joyful mood captured in the video stands in stark contrast to the tragedy that followed, leaving fans and loved ones deeply shaken.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway and urged anyone with information to come forward. Those with leads are encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Lesiba Tsebe on 071 466 6558, visit their nearest police station, call Crime Stop, or use the MySAPSApp.
Family members have described Dr Nel’s death as a devastating loss. His aunt, Elizabeth Mogale (61), said the family is heartbroken and searching for answers. She revealed that Dr Nel was raised by the family after the passing of his mother in 2003. “We are in pain. He was such a humble and talented young man who loved his music. We just want to know what really happened,” she said.

The family announced that memorial and funeral arrangements will be shared in due course. Dr Nel will be laid to rest in Lephalale, where his late mother is also buried.
Tributes continue to pour in across social media, with fans, friends, and fellow artists expressing shock and sadness over his untimely death. Many described him as a bright light in the local music industry — a passionate performer whose energy and creativity inspired others.
As police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death, fans are left reflecting on the irony of his final hours — moments filled with laughter, music, and life, followed by a tragedy that has silenced one of Limpopo’s most beloved talents.
Dr Nel’s passing is not just a loss for his family but for South Africa’s music community as a whole. His legacy will live on through the songs and memories he leaves behind.
