Limpopo dancer and public figure Matome Robert Mahlatsi Thoka has issued a new public statement addressing the controversy surrounding a private video that recently circulated widely on social media.
In the statement dated 12 August 2026, Thoka expressed remorse over the situation and apologised to those who were hurt, disappointed or affected by the controversy. He acknowledged that the incident had triggered strong emotions among members of the public and said he understood why many people were upset.
Rather than becoming defensive, Thoka said he had chosen to take responsibility for his actions and reflect on the decisions that led to the situation. He admitted that he had made a serious error in judgment and recognised that his actions had consequences that extended beyond his personal life.

A major part of his statement focused on his upbringing and personal values. Thoka explained that he was raised in a Christian family where marriage is respected and infidelity is rejected. However, he admitted that his actions did not reflect the principles he was taught.
According to Thoka, he only discovered after the video became public that the woman involved was married. He acknowledged that he should have taken the necessary steps to establish her marital status before becoming involved with her.
He described this failure as a serious lapse in judgment and accepted that he could not use the circumstances as an excuse. Instead, he said the responsibility remained with him because he should have exercised greater caution.
Thoka also directed an apology towards the Shai family, expressing regret for the pain and distress he believes the situation caused them. He said hurting the family was never his intention and insisted that causing such harm was not consistent with how he had been raised.

While he rejected the label of being a “home wrecker”, Thoka nevertheless acknowledged the emotional damage associated with the controversy. He extended his apology to everyone who had been disappointed or distressed by the incident.
The Limpopo Boy also reflected on the responsibilities that come with being a public figure. He acknowledged that people who follow and support him have expectations and that public visibility means his actions can have consequences beyond his immediate circle.
Thoka said he was choosing humility instead of defensiveness. He admitted that he is not perfect and that he has made mistakes, but said he wanted to learn from the experience rather than simply defend himself.

He further acknowledged that an apology cannot undo what has already happened. According to him, rebuilding trust will require more than words, and he understands that his future actions will ultimately determine whether people believe his promise to change.

The public figure said he intends to use the controversy as a learning experience and work towards becoming a better person. He appealed for an opportunity to demonstrate genuine change through his conduct over time.
His statement ultimately centred on accountability, remorse and personal growth. While Thoka cannot change the events that have already unfolded, he said he can control how he responds moving forward.
For now, his message to his family, supporters and members of the public is that he understands their disappointment and accepts that restoring trust will take time. He hopes that through consistent actions, humility and accountability, he can eventually regain the confidence of those who feel let down by the controversy.
