Authorities in Gauteng are investigating the death of another woman whose body was discovered in Dawn Park, Boksburg, on Wednesday, 17 September 2026. The discovery has increased concern over a series of deaths involving women reported in and around Ekurhuleni since July.
The woman, believed to be about 30 years old, was reportedly found naked and wrapped in a sheet. Police said the circumstances suggested that her body may have been dumped at the location. A murder case has been opened, and detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
Gauteng acting provincial commissioner Major General Fred Kekana confirmed the latest discovery during a media briefing. He said investigators were working to establish what happened and whether there was any connection between the different cases.
The Dawn Park case brings the reported number of women found dead in the Ekurhuleni area since July to nine. However, police have not confirmed that all of the deaths are linked to one perpetrator or a single pattern.
Several cases have been reported in different parts of the East Rand. On 15 July, a 37-year-old woman was found naked and restrained with cable ties in an open field near the R21 in Kempton Park. Itumeleng Kekana, 32, was reported missing on 17 July, and her body was later discovered near Great North Road in Pomona on 3 August.
Another 32-year-old woman was found partially clothed near the R21 on 24 August. Further discoveries were reported in areas including Clayville, Olifantsfontein, Rhodesfield and KwaThema.
One of the victims was Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, 38. The mother had reportedly gone out for her regular run but did not return. Her partially clothed body was later found behind a hotel in Rhodesfield.
In Olifantsfontein, another woman was discovered with visible bruising. In KwaThema, Springs, a woman believed to be in her 30s was found behind Club 69. Preliminary pathology findings reportedly indicated that she had been strangled.
The growing number of cases has placed pressure on law-enforcement authorities to establish whether the deaths are connected and to identify those responsible.
Police have urged women and girls to exercise caution, particularly when walking, running or travelling alone. Major General Kekana stressed that the advice should not be interpreted as a restriction on women’s freedom of movement.
The investigation comes amid a broader police operation in parts of Ekurhuleni. Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi previously announced a major police operation in Kempton Park and surrounding areas. Authorities also announced a R400,000 reward for information that could assist investigators in connection with the deaths of eight women.
As detectives continue examining evidence from multiple crime scenes, police have appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could help advance the investigations.
