The family of 26-year-old Karabo Makatela is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a young mother and student whose life was cut short after a difficult battle with liver cancer.
Karabo passed away on Thursday, 30 July 2026, after living with the devastating diagnosis for approximately 18 months. Her death has left her loved ones, friends and members of the community grieving the loss of a young woman who still had many dreams and plans for the future.
According to information shared by her family, Karabo was diagnosed with cancer when the disease had already reached stage four. As her condition progressed, her loved ones explored different options to ensure that she could receive the medical care she needed.
The family previously appealed to the public for financial assistance after they were informed that state hospitals could no longer offer further treatment for her condition. They hoped that financial support would allow Karabo to access private medical treatment and give her another chance in her fight against the illness.
Despite the efforts made by her family and supporters, Karabo sadly lost her battle.
