The family of Boitumelo Nhlanzi is mourning her death after she was identified as the 12th woman found dead amid a series of killings reported in Ekurhuleni.
Boitumelo’s death has left her relatives searching for answers, with the circumstances surrounding her final days now coming under scrutiny. Her family is also concerned about the whereabouts of her fiancé, whom they say they have been unable to locate since learning of her death.
According to Boitumelo’s uncle, the family contacted her fiancé after receiving news that she had died. The man allegedly told them that he was on his way to meet them. However, the family says he never arrived.
The relatives reportedly attempted to contact him again later, but his cellphone was allegedly switched off. Concerned about his absence, they went to the place where he had been staying in an effort to establish where he was.
The family claims they were informed that the man had left the property at around 4am. His sudden absence reportedly raised further questions for relatives who were already trying to understand what had happened to Boitumelo.
According to the family, they also contacted his relatives in an attempt to find him, but they were reportedly unable to establish his whereabouts.
Boitumelo’s uncle further alleged that the couple were engaged and that the man had already paid lobola. He also said that the fiancé was originally from Eswatini.
The family’s concerns come as authorities continue dealing with a number of cases involving women whose bodies have been discovered in different parts of Ekurhuleni. While the deaths have generated widespread concern, each case still requires its own investigation, and it should not be assumed that all of the incidents are connected without evidence.
For Boitumelo’s loved ones, however, the immediate priority is understanding what happened to her and ensuring that those responsible, if identified, are brought before the courts.
The family is now left to grieve while waiting for answers about the circumstances surrounding Boitumelo’s death. Her relatives and those who knew her are remembering her as a loved one whose life was cut short.
