South African rapper Shebeshxt remains in custody after his latest attempt to secure bail was postponed at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on 8 October 2026.
Contrary to earlier expectations that his fifth bail application could produce a different outcome, the court did not make a final decision on whether he should be released. Instead, proceedings were postponed to 26–29 October, giving the State additional time to consider the evidence presented by the defence.
This is Shebeshxt’s fifth attempt to obtain bail since his arrest. His previous four applications were unsuccessful, with two being heard in the Magistrate’s Court and two subsequent appeals being considered by the Limpopo High Court.
During the latest application, Shebeshxt’s legal team presented new information in an effort to support his request for release. The defence submitted a lengthy affidavit as well as a forensic ballistics report prepared by Dr Christo de Klerk.

Shebeshxt has consistently maintained that he was framed and has denied allegations that he was involved in a shooting incident with Petrus Ralefatane on 19 October 2025. His defence is expected to rely on the newly submitted evidence as the bail proceedings continue later this month.
The State requested additional time to study the defence material and prepare for cross-examination. The court granted the request, resulting in the postponement of the proceedings.
The rapper continues to face serious charges connected to the case. According to the charges outlined in the proceedings, he faces 21 counts, including attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, assault, reckless and negligent driving, and culpable homicide.
His continued detention means that he will remain behind bars until the bail hearing resumes later in October, unless there is another development affecting his custody.
The postponement does not amount to either a victory or rejection for the defence. The court has not yet ruled on whether Shebeshxt should be granted bail in this latest application.
The next stage of the proceedings is scheduled for 26–29 October at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court, where the State and defence are expected to continue presenting and testing the evidence relating to his bail request.
For now, Shebeshxt remains in custody as his legal battle continues.
