A Soweto family is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a 40-year-old man who was killed after being struck by an Uber Eats delivery motorcycle in Central Western Jabavu on Sunday night.
The victim, identified as Lungile Seneke, was reportedly crossing the road with a friend when the speeding delivery bike hit both pedestrians. The tragic accident claimed Seneke’s life at the scene, while his friend survived with injuries and was rushed to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital for medical treatment.

The incident has left residents shocked and heartbroken, with many gathering near the scene shortly after the collision. Family members were seen sitting on the roadside in disbelief as emergency personnel and police attended to the situation.
According to reports, the Uber Eats rider involved in the accident was later taken to Moroka Police Station as authorities opened an investigation into the deadly collision. Preliminary investigations are also looking into allegations that the rider may have been intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Lungile’s mother, Nonosi Seneke, spoke emotionally about the moment she received the devastating news of her son’s death. She said she was visiting relatives in Dobsonville when she got a call informing her that Lungile had been hit by an Uber delivery bike
The grieving mother explained that she immediately rushed to the scene after hearing the news, hoping her son would survive. Sadly, Lungile had already succumbed to his injuries before help could save him.
Witnesses at the scene described the accident as horrific, saying the motorcycle struck the two men with great force while they were crossing the road. One witness said community members tried to assist before emergency services arrived, but there was little they could do for Seneke.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Superintendent Xolani Fihla confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing. He stated that two pedestrians were struck by the motorcycle and both sustained injuries, but one later died from the injuries suffered during the collision.
The surviving pedestrian remains in hospital receiving treatment, while police continue gathering evidence to determine exactly what led to the fatal crash.
The tragedy has once again raised concerns around road safety involving delivery drivers, especially on busy township roads where pedestrians and motorists often share congested streets. Residents in the area have called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and more responsible driving from delivery riders operating in local communities.
Many people on social media have also expressed condolences to the Seneke family, while others urged delivery companies to ensure their drivers follow road regulations and avoid reckless driving.
As investigations continue, Lungile Seneke’s family is now left trying to come to terms with the painful loss of a loved one whose life ended suddenly and tragically on a Soweto street.
