A tragic story has surfaced out of Tennessee, where a man kidnapped his pregnant ex-girlfriend and her four children before stabbing her multiple times. The suspect, Deandre Wilkins, is currently in custody facing several charges, including attempted murder, after this shocking and violent attack.
The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. on a Friday evening in Memphis, Tennessee. Police responded to an emergency call in a parking lot located on Havana Street. Upon arrival, paramedics discovered a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds and immediately transported her to a nearby hospital. The victim later told officers that she had been walking with companions when Wilkins, her 35-year-old ex-boyfriend, appeared and assaulted her.
According to a criminal complaint, Wilkins approached the woman and struck her in the face before pulling out a kitchen knife. He then stabbed her ten times, allegedly telling her, “I told you I was going to get you.” Despite the severity of her injuries, the woman survived the attack and was able to identify Wilkins from a photo lineup presented by the police.
The couple had reportedly been in a relationship for about a year before ending things several months ago. The woman, now pregnant with Wilkins’ child, had previously endured multiple assaults at his hands over the past summer. This latest stabbing marks the third reported instance of domestic violence involving Wilkins and his ex-girlfriend since July.
### Previous Incidents of Abuse
On July 24, Wilkins allegedly assaulted the woman, striking her in the face several times before stealing her purse. The victim did not immediately report this attack.
A more terrifying incident occurred on August 5, when Wilkins reportedly held the woman and her four children captive inside their home. According to the criminal complaint, he hit her in the mouth and threatened her life, telling her that he would kill her if she attempted to leave the residence. Wilkins also picked up a kettlebell weight and threatened to “smash her face in” if she tried to escape.
Wilkins was arrested following the August 5 incident on charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence, and four counts of false imprisonment. However, the victim also disclosed the earlier July 24 assault to the authorities, leading to additional charges of robbery and domestic violence. Wilkins was initially released after posting a $60,000 bond.
### Wilkins Fails to Appear in Court
After his release, a judge issued a bench warrant for Wilkins’ arrest when he failed to appear in court on August 20. His history of violent behavior has been well-documented, with prior convictions for aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, aggravated robbery, and burglary. Despite being on probation, Wilkins continued his pattern of violence toward his ex-girlfriend.
Wilkins is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail, with his bond set at $2 million. He is facing charges of attempted murder and domestic assault in connection with this latest attack.
This tragic series of events underscores the devastating impact of domestic violence and the dire need for victims to receive the protection and support they deserve.
