TV presenter Xolani Khumalo, host of the controversial reality show Sizok’thola, is once again under public and legal scrutiny after new allegations of criminal behavior emerged. The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) recently accused Khumalo and the show’s crew of assaulting seven Nigerian nationals during a drug raid in Springs, Johannesburg, on April 24, 2025.
Khumalo, known for his bold on-camera confrontations of alleged drug dealers, has been at the center of various legal controversies in recent years. In 2023, he was arrested on murder charges linked to his work on Sizok’thola, though those charges were later dropped. His return to the show was widely welcomed by fans, but this latest accusation casts a shadow over his public image.
According to NUSA, the Sizok’thola team, with Khumalo present, allegedly carried out a raid that turned violent. The union claims that seven Nigerians were assaulted while South African Police Service (SAPS) officers stood by without intervening. In addition to assault, Khumalo and his crew are being accused of kidnapping and theft during the operation. Despite the seriousness of these allegations, no arrests have been made so far.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has confirmed that it will launch an investigation into the incident. This development has reignited the debate over the methods used by the Sizok’thola crew in their mission to expose drug-related crimes.
This is not the first time a presenter from the show has faced legal issues. Xolani Maphanga, who briefly replaced Khumalo as host, was previously arrested for allegedly assaulting an elderly woman accused of being a drug dealer. The incident further fueled public concern about the aggressive approach the show’s presenters take in their fight against crime.
Despite these mounting legal troubles, Khumalo continues to enjoy significant public support. Social media has been abuzz with opinions, with many users defending Khumalo’s actions. Some believe he is doing essential work by tackling drug issues in local communities, arguing that his controversial methods are necessary given the severity of the drug problem.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) stated, “What public scrutiny? We South Africans have nothing against this man. He must continue doing the Lord’s work.” Others echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the perceived failure of law enforcement and expressing admiration for Khumalo’s courage.
Still, not all opinions are supportive. Critics argue that no individual is above the law and that vigilante-style tactics undermine the legal system. One user tweeted, “Xolani must be arrested. He thinks he is above the law.”
As the investigation proceeds, the future of Sizok’thola and its hosts remains uncertain. Whether the show’s bold tactics continue to earn public favor or lead to further legal consequences will depend on the outcome of the investigations and any resulting legal action.
