A young woman’s life was tragically cut short in Mofolo, Soweto, after she was allegedly struck and killed by a speeding vehicle reportedly linked to an off-duty Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer. The heartbreaking incident has sparked outrage among community members and social media users, with many demanding justice and accountability.
The victim, 23-year-old Logan Lemek, who was pregnant at the time of her death, died on Monday evening, May 12, 2026. According to reports, she had attended a job training session with her friend, Robyn Stehlin, shortly before the fatal accident occurred.

Stehlin later shared details of the incident, explaining that the two women had just gotten out of a vehicle and were walking safely along the side of the road. She claimed they were well away from the white line when a speeding vehicle began swerving dangerously from side to side before suddenly crashing into Lemek.
Witnesses say the impact was severe, throwing the young woman into the air. Emergency services reportedly declared her dead at the scene. The tragic loss has left her family devastated and struggling to come to terms with what happened.
According to eyewitness accounts, the driver allegedly fled immediately after the collision. However, a member of the public reportedly chased after the suspect and managed to force him to return to the scene shortly afterward.
The situation became even more emotional when family members claimed that responding JMPD officers appeared more focused on the driver than on assisting the victim. Relatives alleged that no immediate medical attention was given to Lemek while officers dealt with the suspect and the scene.
It has since been alleged that the vehicle involved belongs to a JMPD officer who was reportedly travelling to work at the time of the incident. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, no arrest had been made several days later, and the officer’s identity had not been publicly released.
The case has now been handed over to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), which is responsible for investigating cases involving police officers. JMPD has confirmed that an internal investigation is underway, but the officer involved reportedly remains on duty while investigations continue.
Lemek’s family has expressed frustration and anger over the handling of the matter. They believe that if an ordinary civilian had been involved in such an incident, an arrest would have already been made. The family is now calling for authorities to act swiftly and ensure that justice is served.
The incident has also triggered strong reactions online, with many South Africans expressing concern about police accountability and the treatment of victims in similar cases. Social media users have called for transparency in the investigation and demanded that those responsible face the full might of the law.
As investigations continue, friends, relatives, and members of the community continue to mourn the loss of a young woman whose life ended in a tragic and deeply painful manner.
