Vehicle tracking company Cartrack has offered to pay the funeral expenses of employee Gcina Dhladhla, whose death at the company’s Rosebank offices in Johannesburg has sparked widespread public concern and renewed questions about workplace wellbeing.
The offer was made during a meeting between Cartrack representatives and members of Dhladhla’s family as both sides discussed the circumstances surrounding the 29-year-old call centre agent’s death. According to family members, the meeting provided an opportunity to raise concerns and seek clarity while investigations into the incident continue.
Dhladhla died after suffering a medical emergency while at work. Reports indicate that she informed colleagues and supervisors that she was not feeling well before later collapsing in a bathroom cubicle. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but she could not be saved.

Her death has generated significant public attention, with family members alleging that she had repeatedly complained about feeling exhausted and unwell in the weeks leading up to the tragedy. They claim she submitted medical certificates and requested time off due to health concerns but was still expected to report for duty.
Dhladhla’s aunt, Nomusa Dhladhla, has been among the family members demanding answers about the events leading to her niece’s death. The family believes there are still many unanswered questions regarding how the situation was handled and whether more could have been done to assist her before her condition deteriorated.
Cartrack has denied allegations that Dhladhla was prevented from taking sick leave or was forced to remain at work despite being ill. The company maintains that there was no indication she was seriously unwell when she arrived for her shift and insists that trained first responders immediately assisted her once the severity of her condition became apparent.
The company has also rejected several claims circulating on social media regarding the incident, stating that it is cooperating fully with ongoing investigations and remains committed to establishing the facts surrounding the tragedy.
Meanwhile, pressure continues to mount from community groups, labour activists and political organisations calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dhladhla’s death. Some organisations have lodged formal complaints and demanded accountability if any workplace failures are uncovered.
As preparations for Dhladhla’s funeral continue, her family says their immediate focus is on laying her to rest with dignity. However, they remain determined to pursue answers and ensure that all aspects of the incident are fully investigated.
The case has reignited discussions about employee welfare, workplace stress and the importance of responding swiftly to workers who report health concerns. While investigations are ongoing, many South Africans continue to follow the story closely, hoping that the circumstances surrounding Dhladhla’s death will be fully explained and that her family will receive the answers they seek.
