**GIYANI, LIMPOPO** – Family members, friends, colleagues, and community members gathered in Olifantshoek Village, west of Giyani, on Saturday, 4 July 2026, to pay their final respects to Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer Palesa Androneth Rikhotso, whose life ended tragically at the age of 27.
The emotional funeral service brought together mourners from Limpopo and Gauteng to celebrate the life of a young woman remembered for her dedication to public service, professionalism, and love for her community.
According to reports, Rikhotso died on 28 June 2026 after she was allegedly shot by a fellow JMPD officer in Gauteng. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, and official investigations remain ongoing.

Born and raised in Olifantshoek Village, Rikhotso was described as a determined and hardworking individual who always dreamed of serving and protecting others. After completing her education, she joined the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department in 2019, marking the beginning of a career devoted to law enforcement and community safety.
During her years of service, she was stationed in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, where she worked in one of the city’s busiest areas, helping maintain law and order in a precinct that serves thousands of residents, students, businesses, and educational institutions.

Colleagues who worked closely with Rikhotso remembered her as a disciplined, dependable, and committed officer who carried out her responsibilities with integrity and professionalism. Many said she approached every task with dedication and earned the respect of both fellow officers and members of the public.
Outside of her policing career, Rikhotso had a deep passion for football. She was an active member of the JMPD Ladies Soccer Team, where she showcased the same determination and teamwork that defined her professional life. Fellow teammates recalled her as a natural leader who motivated those around her and played an important role in helping the team reach the finals of a competition last year.
Her involvement in sport allowed her to build lasting friendships and inspire young women pursuing careers in both policing and athletics. Those who knew her said she balanced her demanding career with her sporting commitments while always maintaining a positive attitude.

The funeral service was filled with heartfelt tributes celebrating her life, courage, and commitment to serving South Africans.
