A young Cape Town petrol attendant whose quick thinking helped save lives during an unexpected childbirth has received overwhelming support from South Africans, with more than R67,000 raised to help him pursue his dream of becoming a paramedic.
Twenty-one-year-old Chevaan Abrahams captured the hearts of many after stepping into action when a pregnant woman unexpectedly went into labour at a service station where he works. What began as an ordinary shift at Shell Zevenwacht in Kuils River on 22 May 2026 quickly turned into a life-changing experience that would inspire thousands across the country.
According to reports, the pregnant woman arrived at the petrol station while in active labour. With emergency services still on their way and no medical professionals immediately available, Abrahams remained calm under intense pressure and assisted in delivering a healthy baby boy.
