Rapper Emtee, real name Mthembeni Ndevu, was involved in a car accident on Monday night at The Precinct Luxury Apartments in Midrand. While the accident resulted in damage to both his silver Volkswagen Caravelle T5 and a stationary vehicle, the rapper walked away unscathed. Images from the accident scene quickly circulated online, sparking widespread speculation about whether Emtee had been under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash.
Despite the rumors, Emtee insists that the incident is being blown out of proportion simply because of his fame. “Not that anybody cares, but I’m OK,” the rapper told *TshisaLIVE*. “It’s all over because of who I am. If I was a normal citizen, it would never have happened like this. It’s a trend to talk negatively about me.”
The artist expressed frustration with the attention surrounding the accident, stating that the public has a tendency to amplify any situation involving his name. “I can’t talk about it. I’m not like them. I don’t have a loud mouth,” Emtee said, emphasizing that there was no need for people to discuss the event so extensively. “The accident happened, and that’s that. I’m alive, he’s alive. Everything will be sorted.”
When asked directly whether he had been sober at the time of the crash, Emtee confirmed that he had been. “Yes. The same people lied to the police and said I was drunk. That time I don’t drink alcohol,” he explained. Emtee clarified that while he does smoke marijuana, he does not consume alcohol, making the accusations of intoxication unfounded.https://x.com/_BlackZA/status/1841027881918476630?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1841027881918476630%7Ctwgr%5Eb6bb7835051a683b2f9a397b2eb108675c0dc28d%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-23573048423480565322.ampproject.net%2F2409061044000%2Fframe.html
The “Roll Up” hitmaker also revealed that he believes many people are looking for opportunities to tarnish his reputation. “It’s time to embarrass and talk sh*t about me. It’s time to kick me while I’m down,” he said. Despite feeling targeted, Emtee maintained that he is not fazed by the criticism. “I’m not down though. People want to amplify my mistakes. People are disrespecting me and doing funny things like that.”
The rapper expressed his belief that had the accident resulted in his death, the public’s reaction would have been vastly different. “If I died, everybody was going to say RIP. I’m alive, and people are still sh*tting on me,” Emtee lamented, reflecting on the harsh scrutiny he faces.
In response to Emtee’s claims, *TshisaLIVE* reached out to Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Xolani Fihla for comment on the incident. At the time of writing, no response had been received.
This accident comes amid a tumultuous period in Emtee’s life, with the rapper facing a string of controversies and public feuds. Most recently, he parted ways with fellow rapper Lolli Native, who had been signed to his record label, Emtee Records. Emtee has also been entangled in a dispute with OnlyFans model and rapper Azanian Doll, who made allegations against him, which he has vehemently denied.
Emtee continues to push forward despite the negativity surrounding his name, stating that he will not let the public’s perception of him define his career or personal life.
