The North West Department of Education has extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving families of three learners who were recently laid to rest in an emotional memorial service held at Vryburg High School on 14 April 2026.
The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education in the province, Ntsetsao Viola Motsumi, attended the solemn gathering where she addressed mourners and honoured the lives of the young learners. During the service, she also formally handed over the school blazers of the deceased learners to their families, a symbolic gesture that deeply moved those in attendance.
Speaking at the memorial, Motsumi shared a message of comfort and hope, acknowledging the deep pain experienced by the families, friends, and the broader school community. She drew strength from scripture, quoting Psalm 34:18, which reminds us that “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted,” offering reassurance that even in moments of profound grief, comfort can be found.
She further referenced Matthew 5:4, saying, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted,” encouraging the bereaved families to hold on to faith during this incredibly difficult time. In her address, she also reflected on Revelation 21:4, a promise that speaks of a future free from pain, sorrow, and suffering, bringing a message of hope to those struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss.
The memorial service was marked by an atmosphere of sorrow, reflection, and unity, as learners, educators, family members, and community stakeholders gathered to pay their final respects.
