The family of late South African actor **Seputla Sebogodi** has spoken publicly about an ongoing disagreement over where the beloved performer should be buried, saying they hope he will be laid to rest alongside his late mother in his hometown of Ga-Mothapo, Limpopo.
Sebogodi, who passed away at the age of 63 on **15 July 2026**, is being remembered across the country for his decades-long contribution to the South African entertainment industry. However, while fans and colleagues continue to mourn his passing, his relatives say they are also dealing with emotional pain caused by uncertainty surrounding his funeral arrangements.
According to members of the family, the actor died at a hospital in Mokopane after reportedly suffering complications related to diabetes. They were informed that he had collapsed while working on one of his projects in Limpopo before being taken to hospital.
When relatives gathered at the family home in Ga-Ramogale, they described the past few days as extremely difficult, saying they had hoped to focus on celebrating Sebogodi’s life instead of dealing with disagreements over his final resting place.
The family says they want the veteran actor buried at **Makgopeng Cemetery**, where his mother, Anna Sebogodi, is buried. They believe this would honour his family roots and allow loved ones to continue paying their respects close to home.
According to the family, there is another proposal for Sebogodi to be buried at **Silicon Cemetery** in Polokwane. They allege that this preference comes from the actor’s wife, whom they say he married about six months ago, together with his children. Family members also claimed they had not been aware of the marriage before his death.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Sebogodi’s elder sister, **Mary Kau**, said relatives have not yet had the opportunity to view the actor’s body since his passing. She said the experience has been heartbreaking, especially because she was unable to perform traditional family rituals that are important before burial.
Kau said the family’s concerns are not about financial matters but about ensuring that her younger brother is buried alongside their mother. She described the close relationship they shared throughout their lives and said the family simply wants to honour his wishes and heritage.
Sebogodi’s nephew, **France Sebogodi**, echoed those sentiments, saying it would be meaningful for the actor to be buried near his family so relatives can easily visit his grave in the future. He expressed concern that a burial in Polokwane would make regular visits more difficult for family members living in Ga-Mothapo.
Meanwhile, tributes have continued to pour in from across the country. The **Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM)** praised Sebogodi as one of South Africa’s finest storytellers, describing him as a humble and dedicated performer whose work inspired generations of actors and audiences alike.
Sebogodi is survived by his four children from a previous marriage as well as his siblings, Mary and Nkokona. At the time of reporting, his eldest son had not commented publicly on the reported burial disagreement.
Funeral and memorial service dates have not yet been announced, as discussions surrounding the actor’s burial arrangements continue. Despite the differing views, many South Africans remain united in celebrating the remarkable legacy left behind by one of the country’s most respected actors.
