Early Life and Background

Sindi Dlathu, a renowned South African actress, was born on January 4, 1974, in Meadowlands, Soweto, Johannesburg. She grew up alongside her twin sister, Zanele Sangweni, and developed a passion for the entertainment industry at a young age.

*Acting Career*

*Ashell Road Fame and National Miming Challenge*

At just 12 years old, Sindi auditioned for the popular South African talent competition, Ashell Road Fame. Although she didn’t win, the exposure led to mentorship from a member of the band Mahotella Queens. Three years later, she participated in a national miming challenge, where her powerful rendition of an Aretha Franklin song secured her victory.

*Sarafina Play and Muvhango*

In 1997, Sindi auditioned for Mbongeni Ngema’s play, Sarafina, and landed one of the roles. Her most prominent role came when she portrayed Nomthandazo “Thandaza” Mokoena in the long-running soap opera, Muvhango. Initially a minor character, Thandaza’s role grew over the years, making her one of the show’s central figures.

*The River*

Sindi left Muvhango to play the fierce and captivating character, Lindiwe Dlamini-Dikana, in the telenovela, The River. Lindiwe is a woman who will stop at nothing to protect her wealth and maintain her lavish lifestyle.

*Awards and Recognition*

Sindi’s talent has not gone unnoticed. She won the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Award for Favorite Actress in 2020 and received the SAFTA Award for Best Actress for her role as Lindiwe in The River in 2021.
