Family members, friends and community members have gathered at the Mathebula family home in Homu 14-A near Giyani to say their final goodbye to 28-year-old Vutomi Mathebula
Vutomi was laid to rest in her hometown after a long and painful period of uncertainty for her family. She had reportedly been missing for about six months, leaving her loved ones desperate for answers and hoping that she would eventually return home safely.
The family’s hopes were later shattered when they were informed that human remains discovered in the Kempton Park area had been positively identified as those of Vutomi.
Her identification brought an end to months of uncertainty, but also forced her family to confront the devastating reality of her death. Relatives and community members have now come together to mourn her loss and remember her life.
The funeral gathering in Homu 14-A provided an opportunity for those who knew Vutomi to pay their final respects. Her family and friends are expected to draw on one another for support as they come to terms with the loss of a young woman whose life was cut short.
Vutomi’s death has also drawn attention to the wider investigation into women whose remains have been discovered in and around the Kempton Park and Ekurhuleni areas.
