A 54-year-old man from Mabuyaze in Ezibeleni, near Komani, has been arrested following allegations that he violently assaulted his 44-year-old girlfriend and later unlawfully confined her inside his home for several hours.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded after the woman visited the suspect at his residence. The two reportedly spent time together during the evening, but tensions escalated later at night, leading to a heated argument. The dispute is said to have started around 11:30 PM and quickly turned violent.
Authorities allege that during the altercation, the man attacked the woman using a stick and also punched her repeatedly. The assault reportedly left her injured and in distress. Police have described the attack as severe, with the victim sustaining injuries consistent with physical violence.
Following the assault, the situation allegedly worsened when the suspect prevented the woman from leaving the property. It is reported that the following morning, instead of allowing her to seek help, the man locked her inside the house, effectively restricting her movement and preventing her from reporting the incident immediately.
The woman was allegedly left alone and injured inside the locked house for several hours. During this time, she was unable to reach assistance or contact emergency services. The confinement is believed to have been deliberate, further intensifying the seriousness of the case being investigated by authorities.
Police were eventually alerted and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found that the house was still locked, with the victim inside. They made contact with the suspect and instructed him to return to the property and open the premises to allow access.
Once the house was opened, officers were able to assist the injured woman and ensure her safety. She was then released from the property and immediately proceeded to the local police station, where she formally opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The suspect was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident. Police confirmed that he is facing charges related to assault and unlawful confinement, and investigations into the full circumstances surrounding the case are ongoing.
Authorities have condemned incidents of domestic violence and reiterated the importance of victims seeking immediate help when faced with abuse. The case has since been registered for further investigation, and the suspect is expected to appear in court once formal charges are finalized.
