Award-winning vocalist Lelethu Mdolomba, widely known as Samthing Soweto, has addressed the controversy surrounding his lack of credit on the song “Amalanga Awafani.”
Last week, Samthing Soweto became a trending topic on social media after fans noticed that he was not credited for his contributions to the song. The credits only included Lawd Weezy, Star Quality, and DJ Maphorisa, sparking an uproar online.
In a series of tweets posted this morning, the “Sphithiphithi” hitmaker revealed that he had previously lied about DJ Maphorisa’s involvement in his album, *Isphithiphithi*. He clarified that DJ Maphorisa did not produce the album and that only Kabza De Small and Mas Musiq were involved in its production.
Samthing Soweto further explained that his initial lack of confidence in the album’s success without DJ Maphorisa’s name led him to buy the masters from the producer and falsely claim that Maphorisa was involved in the project.
“Maphorisa shouldn’t lie the way he does. It’s gonna get him into trouble one day. I paid Phori for my masters. I paid the amount he asked for at the time. Furthermore, I lied about Phori’s contributions to my project; he didn’t produce anything,” Samthing Soweto tweeted.
