South African media personality and musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has broken his silence after being arrested in connection with an alleged confrontation involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale, east of Johannesburg.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on 14 June 2026, has sparked widespread public interest and led to an ongoing legal process. Maarohanye recently appeared before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where he addressed members of the media and strongly denied the allegations made against him.

According to police, the case stems from a complaint lodged by an e-hailing driver who had transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale during the early hours of the morning. Authorities allege that shortly after arriving at the destination, the driver was confronted by Maarohanye.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said investigators were informed that the suspect allegedly accused the driver of having a romantic relationship with his girlfriend. The confrontation reportedly escalated, leading to serious allegations against the television personality.
Police claim that Maarohanye allegedly forced the driver into a vehicle and prevented him from leaving the scene. During the confrontation, it is further alleged that a firearm was discharged in the driver’s direction. Fortunately, the driver was not injured during the incident.

The complainant reportedly managed to escape and drove directly to a nearby police station, where he opened a criminal case. The report subsequently led to Maarohanye’s arrest.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that the media personality currently faces a charge relating to pointing an object that could cause a person to believe it was a firearm. During investigations, police allegedly searched his residence and seized what has been described as a pellet gun.
Authorities have also indicated that additional charges are being investigated. These include allegations of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice. Investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
Following his arrest, Maarohanye approached the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Johannesburg on an urgent basis. His legal team argued that delays in his appearance before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court warranted intervention by the High Court.
The court subsequently granted him bail on 16 June 2026, setting the amount at R5,000. He was released pending further legal proceedings. The case has since been postponed until 24 August 2026 to allow investigators additional time to gather evidence and complete their inquiries.
Speaking outside court after his appearance, Jub Jub maintained his innocence and rejected claims that he had committed any offence.
“I’m not a judge, I’m not a lawyer. I’m just an accused like any other Black man,” he told reporters.
The musician also questioned the evidence presented against him, insisting that there was no proof that he had discharged a firearm during the alleged incident.
“There’s no gun,” he said, suggesting that authorities were building a case based on assumptions rather than facts.
As investigations continue, the matter is expected to return to court in August, where further developments regarding the allegations and potential charges will be closely watched by both supporters and critics of the popular entertainer.
